Last RWD Volvo wagon if I’m correct. It’s a ‘91 and has the first version of the 2.9 inline 6. Pre ‘94 models have short timing belt lives I’ve heard. But I think they look quite good. I found a ‘91 for sale with 190,000 miles, all working fine and the guy’s asking around 750 dollars. Yes or no? Would be my Minnesota winter car. I’ve heard they are pretty reliable. Going to look next week. Any feedback?

I think they look great. For less than $1k if it runs it seems like a good deal.

That’s what I thought! And from the looks of the ad it was just some little interior wear and he said one of the back windows wouldn’t go down. I think it seems good. I’ll give some more info when I actually get to see the car

I’ve heard good things about the 900 series but in our own experience the 700 series is pretty indestructible with the non-interference timing belts and the solid iron block turbo 4-cylinders (we had two that reached over 300K miles apiece)...still, as long as you don’t get the PRV V6 it should be fine, and I do like the 900 series’ looks...

Yeah I almost bought a 780 Bertone actually but backed out because of the PRV. Man was it pretty though

Yeah...I really love 780 Bertones and consider it somewhat of a goal to own one someday but it has to have the iron block turbo 4 because I really don’t feel like dealing with PRV issues and the old Volvo 4 cylinders are some of the best engines ever made in terms of durability and relative performance (yes, it’s slow...but that’s part of the fun...)

I agree. You know I actually kind of liked the PRV ones. I mean I don’t really dislike the engine that much, It’s just if I’m going to have a car that spendy to maintain I’m going to do it right. The PRV’s when they work though aren’t supposed to be that bad even!

Yeah, the main thing that I hate about the PRV is that it kind of ditched all the Volvo standards of reliability and durability for some sort of joint-venture with Frenchmen...with proper maintenance it’s a fine powerplant but it lacks that Volvo character and the idiosyncrasies that accompany it...

From that vintage, I’d recommend you stick with the 4 cyl ones.
